Sleep and Dreams

  • Do you recall your dreams?
  • Do you feel vibrant and refreshed after sleep?
Become more skilled at sleep and dreams as they influence healthy thinking, feeling, functioning and thriving. If you find that you are restless and wake up in the night, or don’t wake refreshed, and you haven’t been diagnosed with a sleep disorder, then working with pin-pointed breathing, mindfulness or meditative techniques may hold some solutions for you.
Since body restoration and repair is diminished greatly when proper sleep eludes us, the body’s genes will begin to mutate and weaken, leaving the immune system naked. If you know you aren’t getting rest, then practicing Yoga Nidra, one of the most healing techniques, akin to meditation, fills some of the gap left by sleep deprivation.  Yoga Nidra brings you to a state between wake and sleep, also called the ‘hyp-na-gog-ic’ state, measured as between alpha (meditation) brainwaves and theta (dream) brainwaves.  This is the state where healing, memory, and tissue repair occur more spontaneously.  This is a state that is somewhat easy to enter into and out of.  It is a practice that is accessible to all, beginners and advanced practitioners alike.  It is a practice that holds many potential outcomes, if you are able to train yourself to stay aware while your body relaxes and sometimes, even tries to slip into sleep. Learn about your own sleep cycle and practices to recall and ‘catch’ your dreams or learn techniques on entering your dreams to change aspects or outcomes of the dream itself.  By committing to some simple techniques regularly, improve your sleep quality and enter dream-sleep to feel refreshed, lighter and clearer, even on days when you didn’t get a good night sleep.
